Jennifer Capriati's younger brother Steven, born on 15th August 1979, turned professional in 1995. He played only one ATP match in 1998, losing in the first round of qualifying at Philadelphia in February to fellow American Steve Campbell (ATP Ranked 117th), entering the ATP Rankings at 1372nd on 2nd March 1998. He reached his current career high singles ranking of 1295th on 5th October 1998 without hitting a ball, due to various movements of other players, and finished 1998 ranked 1342nd, having earned just $370. One of his biggest achievements in juniors was a successful run through the qualifying draw at the junior Australian Open, where he lost in the main draw first round. He finished 1997 in 42nd place in the Final 1997 USTA Junior Boys' 18 Rankings. He is not currently ranked in singles or doubles, as he is studying at the University of South Florida. There he plays collegiate tennis for their team 'the Bulls', currently ranked at 28th in the national rankings. Steven was 21-5 in singles for them in the 1999 season. At Newport in July 1999, while on vacation from University, Steven gained his first ATP win in the first round of qualifying, losing in the next round to Jonathan Stark of the United States (ATP #305).
